Flowers… by Walker: April 26, 2013

I have about a million ideas for the blog and about zero minutes to do them! Since I am attending Design Camp next week (YIPPEE!!!) and have to get all of my school and freelance work done before I leave, my to-do list is a mile long. However, once I return from the conference, I hope to settle in to my new schedule (more on that later as well!) and get back to posting regularly.

So instead I am just here today to say “Happy Friday!” and share a few more lovely flower pictures of a bouquet that my handsome man got for me. I hope you all have a nice weekend! :)

Flowers… by Walker: January 18, 2013

Hey strangers! I know I have been quiet this week. It is the first full week of school and I haven’t quite found the right balance to include blogging yet.  Hopefully next week!

I have had a draft of a post about our wine country weekend since Monday but I have yet to edit any of the billions of photos. So I will leave you with a pretty little Friday afternoon treat instead! These gorgeous flowers arrived at work on my birthday from a special someone (hint: it wasn’t Bo). There are over 200 Peruvian Lily blooms in all different colors. It is hard to tell from these photos but this bouquet is seriously bigger than my head by about three times (or roughly equal to the size of a three-headed version of me). I can barely lift it to change the water! They are so unbelievably stunning and they are still fully in bloom a week later. I LOVE THEM!BirthdayFlowers5

Christmas 2012 Recap Part 1

Hello and happy new year! I hope you all had a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season! We just returned home from our Christmas vacation and thought I would post a few photos from our trip.

We left for Nebraska before dawn on Christmas Eve and landed around midday. We spent Christmas Eve celebrating with Walker’s immediate family and some of his extended family. It was so wonderful!  We exchanged gifts and had a delicious dinner (artichoke stew and chili to warm us up… it was 9 degrees!). On Christmas morning, Walker’s extended family came over and we had an incredible breakfast (including homemade cinnamon rolls and a delicious smoked salmon hash!). We spent the day watching movies and enjoying each others’ company. We finished off the day with a turkey, gravy, and mashed potato feast.  We were totally spoiled. :)

The day after Christmas we went to the movies (Django Unchained for those who are curious) and then had a family get-together to celebrate Walker’s 30th birthday a little early.  Of course, he received scotch as a gift so the night turned into a lively party with his cousins! ;)

We spent the 27th relaxing with his immediate family before I had to depart for the airport that afternoon. I finally arrived in New York by 1am (and had to wait for an hour for my bags of course). Little did I know I would be walking into a house full of sickies! My parents, brother, and entire extended family all caught/spread bronchitis on Christmas. Yuck! :(

On the 28th, my family celebrated a belated Christmas and they were MORE than generous as always. I spent the afternoon drinking coffee, scratching lotto tickets, and exchanging gifts with my best friend.  When I got home, I fed my family soup and/or toast for dinner because they were all so sick! :(

On the 29th, I was eager for some fresh air that was not contaminated with sick germs, so I tagged along with my best friend and her husband to West Mountain to go snowboarding! It was so much fun and it felt great to enjoy the winter weather. In fact, we got about 4 inches of snow while we were on the slopes and had a bit of a slippery drive home.

By the 30th, my family was starting to feel a bit better so we spent the day watching movies, playing games, and relaxing. It was so nice! :)

On New Year’s Eve, I left the house at 4am to get to the airport and flew back to LA. I arrived around midday, only 45 minutes or so from Walker in the same terminal.  We gathered our bags and headed home.  After a long nap, we decided we were too tired to go out for New Years Eve and instead opted to have a date night in (since we hadn’t seen each other in days!).  We cooked an amazing meal of ahi tuna filets and garlic mashed potatoes, drank lots of wine, played Yahtzee (I got three Yahtzees on our last game… crazy right!?), and listened to great music! It was the perfect night! We began 2013 with a champagne toast and a solid night’s sleep in our own bed!

January 1st was the (2nd) anniversary of our first date so we always have a fun time celebrating New Years Day! We got up and watched Nebraska play in the bowl game while we drank coffee and got ready for the day.  As tradition dictates, we then went to lunch at the restaurant where we had our first date! After lunch we walked around downtown Burbank and went into a few shops. Also in keeping with tradition, we found a photo booth to take a few anniversary pictures (we forgot a camera last year so this was our solution)! When we got home, we exchanged gifts and watched one of the movies we got for Christmas.

Then yesterday I had to get up and go back to real life… BOO! Oh, well. At least our vacation was amazing and relaxing! I will be back tomorrow to share some of the awesome home-related gifts we received for the holidays!

Now onto the good stuff… a few pictures from the trip. Enjoy and happy 2013!

Flowers… by Walker: November 3, 2012

Happy Saturday, everyone! I hope you are all having a wonderful day. I just wanted to share a few pictures of the gorgeous fall flowers Walker brought home for me and my mom who is in town this weekend. My dad is here too but the flowers aren’t really his thing! ;)

Have a great weekend and enjoy your extra hour of sleep… I know I will!

Fall & Football Decorations

I am oh so envious of all of you that get to experience true fall: leaves changing colors, crisp autumn breezes, apple cider doughnuts. You get my drift. Here in LA, the most we get is a cooler night or two and a barrel of half-rotten pumpkins at every grocery store. Okay, I’ll stop whining but the point I am trying to make is that we sort of have to create fall around here. So over the weekend, we did just that!

The thing that most represents autumn in this apartment is FOOTBALL. We are big NY Giants and Nebraska Cornhuskers fans. So I went to a really awesome website to create some fun Nebraska football art for our front door at the beginning of this season. It was good luck on Saturday because we had an exciting win.

Walker even bought me some red and white gladiolas to support the team colors! GO BIG RED! Aren’t they stunning?!  They are STILL blooming, too…

To continue bringing fall to our place, Walker and I spent Saturday night carving pumpkins, drinking pumpkin beer, enjoying a fire in the fire pit, and listening to good music! It was glorious! Although, on second thought, it seems quite cruel to murderously de-gut and carve an innocent pumpkin while drinking the remains of his cousin.  Oh well… totally worth it! ;)

I had Monday off of work so I surprised Walker with another pumpkin that was painted with the Cornhusker “N” logo to match the art on our front door! I have been talking about getting a little plant stand for a while now, so I used the new pumpkins as an excuse to get an awesome one for $20 at Ikea. I made a little fall display out front for all to enjoy using the pumpkins, a piece of ornamental corn (for the Cornhuskers!), and some dried grape vines from our plant last year.

I really like the way it turned out! The only thing that stinks is that I have to bring the carved pumpkins inside on hot days so they don’t immediately rot!

To top off our fall celebrations, Walker came home from work to a homemade apple pie baking in the oven! We even made homemade chicken tortellini soup for dinner, just to maintain that cozy feel.

So maybe nature doesn’t really give us fall out here, but I certainly am feeling the good fall vibes in our place.  And really, that is what’s important. I love that happy fall feeling! :)

Flowers… by Walker: September 18, 2012

Okay so I totally owe you guys a fun DIY project post of something I finished two weeks ago but I can’t seem to find enough time in the day to write it. Therefore, in the meantime, you can do ME a favor. On your mark, get set…

NAME THAT FLOWER!

Walker bought these for me over the weekend, telling me they were “Muppet Flowers.” While I think that is an appropriate and adorable name for this little fluffy fleurs, I wanted to know what someone that wasn’t Walker would call them. They have these crazy purple stems that even dye the water pink!My first thought was that perhaps they are some kind mum? The second was that they remind me of the lion flowers in Alice and Wonderland! So maybe walker was right… these flowers are one part plant and one part cartoon/Muppet. Anyway, they are so gorgeous and make me ready for fall! Let me know if you have any insight about what kind of flowers these are! :)

I’M RON BURGUNDY.

Yes, I just brought things back to 2005-6 when you were SO sick of hearing Anchorman quotes but people continued anyway.  Somehow it gained a bit of charm 6 years later… or maybe I’m just THAT girl who won’t let it go…

Aaaaaaanyway, the reason for the mildly annoying quote is an adorable little chloroform chlorophyll-filled (woops! That made it through two proof-reads before I caught my horrid mistake!) friend we acquired over the weekend.  Meet Ron Burgundy:

This little guy needed a good home and our new outdoor end table seemed like the perfect place! What a little cutie!

And while we are on the topic of plant life and cuties, Walker brought some beautiful white spider mums for me this weekend.  I decided the all white flowers needed a dramatic photo shoot since they were so glamorous. Voila: les fleurs! <3
